This is something, unfortunately, that not many people try to do. I have thought of this a lot, and it seems to be very kin to "treat your neighbor as yourself". Acting a certain way regardless of whether or not you feel like it. Not to be cliche, but "the world would be a better place" if people tried to act right, instead of act selfishly.
I can't decide if it's fortunate or unfortunate that doing what I ought, despite how I feel, is something I can't do without supernatural assistance. Sometimes it's hard to want to do right. Without divine aid, I don't think I would do it much in the absence of feeling, if ever. Too often I fail, I think, because I turn away from assistance. Pride, or a sense of entitlement - as if I deserve anything - is what makes that turning away from assistance so tempting. To quote Marsellus Wallace, "That's pride [messing] with ya. [Mess] pride."
